Our Story

Welcome to Black Bird Grove

Nestled in North Canterbury, Black Bird Grove began in our backyard — a lifestyle block surrounded by overgrown native trees, a boutique olive grove, buzzing beehives, and a garden brimming with herbs and flowers. From our historic wash house, we started creating small-batch soaps, balms, candles, and body care, each one handcrafted using ingredients grown on our land or sourced from our local community.

What began as a simple love of making has grown into Black Bird Grove — our retail space where craft and community come together. It’s a place to slow down, connect, and discover the beauty of things made by hand and heart.

At our core, everything we do is about connection — to the land, to our people, and to the quiet art of creating something meaningful.

Pop into our store and you might catch me pouring candles or making a fresh batch of kawakawa balm. Everything is made in-store, by hand, with care, using locally grown and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible.
